Thoughts and Opinions

Let’s Talk Protein… Powder!

Finding a quality protein powder is hard enough as it is. They come in an incredibly broad range of protein sources, flavors, “bulk” promise, “proprietary blends,” and added ingredients. Include an allergy of any kind and finding a decent supplement, that actually tastes good, is an absolute rollercoaster!

I have a few favorites that I know won’t let me down. I’ve experimented with so many kinds of limited ingredient protein powders. If I am able to have it I have most likely tried it. Knowing how long it’s taken me to find my favorites, I decided to make an entire post dedicated to protein powder!

I use different powders for different things, as I have found particular ones work better when used slightly differently. My go-to for most proteins are either in my morning coffee or added into a smoothie for a snack or meal replacement. However, I am very picky and absolutely hate a bitter or gritty feeling protein, which unfortunately is many DF, GF, and CF mixes!

*These are in alphabetical order only, not in order of my favorites.*

Arbonne

First and foremost, I am an Arbonne consultant. I don’t actively sell though.

I do like the flavor of this protein, but I typically only use it when adding to a dessert-like recipe or into smoothies as there is 7g of added sugar. Although, this has been clinically tested and certified low glycemic index.

This protein powder is both vegan and 100% plant-based. However, there is a warning about it processed in a facility that contains wheat, milk, soy, and egg. I’ve never had any issues with the CC risk but I don’t always have issues with the ‘made in facility’ warning. If you fall into this category I would be cautious.

I like this protein because it is 100% plant-based, has 20g of protein and 160 calories per serving. It also has a blend of 24 vitamins and minerals that are a great boost to your diet! There is also a multitude of flavors that are all delicious.

Ingredients – Directly from Arbonne.com for the vanilla powder: Arbonne Protein Matrix Blend (pea protein isolate, cranberry protein, rice protein), cane sugar, gum acacia, chicory root, natural flavors, sunflower oil, flaxseed, stevia leaf extract, xanthan gum, guar gum, tapioca starch, dicalcium phosphate, rice starch, tricalcium phosphate, rice hull concentrate, water, sodium ascorbate, tocopherol, silicon dioxide.

Bone Broth Protein

I love love love bone broth protein! I use the Dr. Axe Pure blend which has a chicken broth flavor. I will add this to recipes that call for bullion or chicken broth in general! It adds 20g protein per serving, collagen type 2, 19 different Amino Acids, and 0 carbs! Which makes this a great addition to your diet! I am always looking to add more protein and collagen into our diets as they not only keep you full longer, but they also benefit your joints and skin!

While it is an option, I don’t drink this straight with a glass of liquid. I highly prefer it with chicken stock and within a meal. There are so many other flavor options but I have only gotten the Pure blend.

Dr. Axe Collagen

My go-to protein! I use this protein daily in my morning coffee or smoothie, to not only add pure collagen into my diet but also ensure I am getting some protein for breakfast!

For my on the go breakfast, I add 1 scoop of this with 1tbsp of coconut oil to my coffee! This usually lasts me until lunch before I feel hungry enough to eat. Great way to get in some healthy fats and protein on your busy mornings! When I use this protein for my smoothies, I will add 2 scoops as well as some chia seeds or hemp hearts in order to up the protein.

This protein powder is great because it is a multiple collagen blend which means you are getting the full benefits of collagen! It helps with skin elasticity, bone, and joint health. As well as strengthening nails and hair, definitely a bonus! Adding some to your diet is beneficial!

This mix only had 9g of protein per serving, but it had 0 calories and 0 added sugars.

Ripple

I am a huge fan of Ripple! From their various milks to their protein powders, I have yet to have something I didn’t like! Their regular pea milk has 8g of plant-based protein per serving, which is wonderful!

They have both protein powders and a pre-packaged protein shake! I haven’t personally tried the pre-made shakes, but I can 100% vouch for Ripple brand products! These would be great to pack for on-the-go and have 20g of plant-based protein!

This mix has 20g of protein per serving, 110 calories, 0g sugar, and 2g of carbs! Which makes this a great supplement if you’re trying to maintain a strict diet of any kind! I will add the vanilla mix to my yogurts or make myself a shake for an afternoon snack! It’s an overall yummy product that I love!
